Do you feel stressed all the time? You get annoyed and lose your temper quickly? Do you feel like your mind controls you? Well, you are not the only one. Research done by Harvard University have shown that meditation is an extremely powerful technique to control ” the voices in our heads” and ensure mindfulness. Meditation is a practice that has been gaining in popularity rapidly, and if you would like to give it a try, here are some few tips for beginners.
Find a quiet place
The first tip of meditation is tranquility. It’s recommended that you find a quiet spot, in which you can not be bothered or distracted. The essence of meditation is to block all noises in order to find peace within your mind, and just relax.
Sit straight and close your eyes
It is absolutely crucial to get in the right mindset for a successful meditation. One great tip is to sit with your back straight. However, since the whole practice is to clear your mind and block all thoughts, experts recommend to keep your eyes close, focus, and most importantly avoid falling asleep.
Count your breaths
Once you are settled in, start breathing slowly while counting each breath you take. Inhale and exhale (for about 2-3 minutes), don’t think too much about what you are doing, just keep breathing.
Block any possible thoughts
This is the tricky, and possibly the hardest part of meditation. Since our brains are wired not to stop thinking, a successful meditation requires blocking all types of thoughts, and clearing all the noise. When thoughts start rushing, relax and be aware. You can start by visualizing your body parts; Arms, legs, hair, hands…Whatever works!
Try to enjoy it
Meditation is really great, and that’s something that you will realize as soon as you finish. One important tip is to enjoy the quietness and freeing your mind from any thoughts during at least 10 minutes everyday. You will notice the results pretty much from the beginning. enjoy the peace, enjoy listening to your body and above all, enjoy being completely aware and present in the moment.
