Have you been getting the right amount of sleep and drinking water, yet still seem to have skin that appears dull and lackluster? Fear not! These four foods will help give you great skin from within, so you can finally look and feel like you’re glowing this summer!
1. Avocados
In case you needed any more reason to top your toast with this delicious super food, avocados are packed with many nutrients that are essential for healthy skin. For starters, avocados have healthy fats that help to keep your skin soft and moisturized, preventing the appearance of wrinkles. They also contain compounds that help to reduce the effects of UV damage! UV rays from the sun are biggest culprit for blemishes and wrinkles, (and not to mention, skin cancer)!
Finally, avocados are also a good source of Vitamin C, which helps to create collagen in your skin. Our skins need collagen to prevent dryness and peeling. Without enough vitamin C, you can expect those less than pleasant side effects to your skin from enjoying a day poolside this summer.
2. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes have a large amount of Beta-carotene, which helps the body to create a “natural sunblock.” By eating sweet potatoes a few times a week, your body will be able to reduce its potency for sunburn and dryness.
Here’s another interesting fact about sweet potato consumption. If you frequently eat this vegetable, there is a chance your skin might start to have a slightly orange hue. While this may sound terrifying, studies have found it actually gives most people a more healthy appearance.
3. Broccoli
Broccoli contains numerous nutrients that are important in making you look young and healthy, such as vitamin A and zinc. Zinc is considered an anti-inflammatory nutrient, which means it fights to reduce breakouts and redness from acne. Finally, a natural way to eliminate zits without using harsh chemicals that can dry out your skin!
Not only that, but broccoli also contains compounds that prevent certain types of skin cancer. While you should always make sure to use sun screen when spending time in the sun, eating foods that lower your risk of melanoma is a great habit for a healthy long life.
4. Dark Chocolate
This is TRULY a reason to celebrate! Beyond being a delectable dessert (or anytime snack, who are we kidding), dark chocolate also does wonders for your skin.
One study found that people have more hydrated skin after regularly consuming cocoa that is high in antioxidants. 70% Dark chocolate or higher is packed with these antioxidants, helping to bring blood flow to your skin to make you appear healthier and reduce fine lines. All the more reason to treat yourself!
