Do you manage to stick to your diet perfectly throughout the day, only to hit a wall by reaching for snacks late at night? It can be downright frustrating to know that all your hard work and restraint can come crashing down at a certain hour of the day. Rather than settle for disappointment, it’s important to determine the root of the cause so you can achieve your weight loss goals once and for all.
You Expect Instant Results
Losing weight and keeping it off are not simple overnight procedures. There is no one cure that can solve any person’s fitness goals, and yet often we believe that by doing a few things correct, like eating healthy during the day, that can negate our nighttime binges. Wrong. Every person’s fitness journey will have moments of difficulty and test one’s willpower to resist cravings, but the end goal is what’s most important. Take time to accept that it will be a process, and sometimes you really don’t need that extra snack at night!
Your Hunger Is Due To Emotions
Believe it or not, many of us are reaching for snacks not because we are physically hungry, but because we are bored, stressed, or lonely. Our bodies and brains can actually trick us into thinking our stomach is rumbling and empty, when really if we wait it out a little or distract ourselves with an activity, the hunger subsides. Not sure if it is physical or emotional hunger? Try The Broccoli Test, for if you are truly hungry you will eat anything.
You Don’t Actually Want To Stop Reaching For Snacks
Sometimes, we don’t actually want to stop eating at night. And that is perfectly fine! Eating at night can be a way to destress, relax, and feel rewarded after a long day. For this reason, it’s important to think about the positives and negatives of taking out that late night snack, both physically and mentally. Only when you are at a point in which you truly want to give up late night snacks can you motivate yourself to do so.
